We all need advice don't we? Not only do we seek advice, we generally would like this to come from an established source. Many tarot readers believe when this card enters a tarot reading, The Hierophant is here to tell us to keep faith in our beliefs. Many other tarot readers believe that he is there to create peace in the midst of crisis and turmoil. When the Hierophant appears in a reading, he's usually here to give us advice on his beliefs, and sometimes his message comes across as pushy, because his attempt is to have us challenge our thoughts in a way that we will join his methods of operating, perceiving, or practicing religion. He places down his "two cents" without asking, and he's good at scolding us in areas of our life he feels our judgment is in error. In my experience, the Hierophant stops you in your tracks and "preaches" to you. This may or may not be warranted, however the advice that he gives comes with great purpose and intellect. The Hierophant is usually someone ministering the word of the Lord or any other religious faith, however what he ministers doesn't necessarily have to be information pertaining to the bible. Sometimes we're challenged at our discernment of what is the right or wrong action to take; and when we experience these challenges - he appears to tell us we will make the right choice according to how we feel. It may not be right to everyone else, it feels right to us.
EXAMPLE: You walk out of a shopping mall and you just got a glimpse of someone side swiping another car in the parking lot. Then the car fled the scene of the crime like a wild bat. You may think to yourself, "That's really messed up! Glad they did hit my car!" You begin to contemplate about what is the appropriate action you should take. Should you just remember this experience and try to park away from terrible drivers like this, or should you take the time to report this incident? The vehicle doesn't belong to you and you really didn't get a good look, you got somewhat of a glimpse at the criminal which was really unclear. Would your testimony really be accredited enough to catch them? I mean, you are in a shopping mall parking lot, surely they have cameras, and when the driver comes out and sees the big ding on their car, they'll just repeat the actions you're about take in rectifying the situation. The Hierophant advises us to do what we feel is the right thing to do. This card may ask you, "Where does your integrity lie?", " Will you try placing yourself in someone else's shoes?", or he may even say, "Honesty is the best policy." The Hierophant wants us to merge towards his beliefs in hopes we will begin the see the road of truth that he has placed us on. His hope is that we'll exercise a righteous and devoted path that steers us away from incriminating actions that are considered ill-mannered and disgraceful.
